Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in Teaching and Research
Award Year: 2023 | Degree Year: 2013
Dr. Ananth Govind Rajan received his B.Tech. Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in 2013. Later, he completed his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2015 and 2019, respectively. From 2019-2020, Dr. Ananth conducted postdoctoral research at Princeton University. Since August 2020, he has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
Dr. Ananth’s research focuses on combining quantum-chemical and classical-mechanical simulations with machine learning to design nanomaterials for sustainable separations and (electro) catalytic conversion processes. His work is focused on varied applications, such as seawater desalination, carbon dioxide reduction to fuels, and electrochemical water splitting. He is the recipient of several honours, including the Infosys Young Investigator Award from the Infosys Foundation and IISc, the Carbon Nanomaterials Graduate Student Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Rosemary Wojtowicz Award from the MIT School of Chemical Engineering Practice for his personal generosity, integrity, and commitment, and the Institute Silver Medal and the Amit Garg Memorial Ethical Leadership Award from IIT Delhi.
Dr. Ananth has co-authored 39 scientific publications in prestigious and high-impact journals. He also collaborates extensively with the industry and has to his credit one Indian patent. He has delivered more than 25 invited talks at various venues in India and around the world.
Among other recognitions, Dr. Ananth was invited to the 2023 Class of Influential Researchers by the American Chemical Society’s Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research journal to author a research article in a special issue for Early-Career and Emerging Researchers by the Journal of Physical Chemistry. He currently serves as a Guest Editor in the journal ACS Engineering Au for a special issue on Materials Design.
In honouring Dr. Ananth Govind Rajan, IIT Delhi recognises his contributions to Teaching and Research. Through his achievements, Dr. Ananth has brought glory to the name of the Institute.
