The academic units at IIT Delhi today are ambitious in ways that need flexible, philanthropic capital. Government grants can't fund most of it. Alumni support can — and at a scale where every gift matters. This is the easiest, fastest way to put your gift to work in the place you already care about most.
The Academic Unit (AU) Excellence Fund is a structured, department-led alumni fundraising initiative designed to engage IIT Delhi's Academic Units — Departments, Schools, and Centres — each through their own alumni communities, in a focused and sustained manner.
Each Academic Unit defines its own fundraising priorities, nominates a departmental spokesperson, and remains accountable for donor stewardship and impact reporting. The structure is distributed where it matters — at the point of relationship between an alumnus and the place that shaped them — and centralised only where it helps: compliance, receipting, and governance.
The primary purpose of the initiative is to create a self-sustaining model where departments, schools & centres can solicit, receive, and deploy alumni contributions toward high-impact, non-routine activities that fall outside regular institutional budgets. The result is a giving culture anchored in specificity: your gift goes to the academic unit you know, for the work only alumni can enable.
The academic unit is open to its alumni — whether you're ready to give, want to visit, or just want to talk. Every good conversation starts one of three ways.
