Cohort Of '76 (Class Of 1981)

Dear Members of the IIT Delhi Cohort Of’ 76,

Greetings On behalf of the Office of Alumni Relations, IIT Delhi and the IIT Delhi Endowment Fund!

A Special fund corpus has been created by the Cohort Of ’76, in memory of our beloved alumni Mr. Karamvir Singh Bisht, who left us for his heavenly abode on 22nd April, 2023.

The Batch has instituted ‘Karamvir Singh Bisht Best Outgoing Sportsperson Award’, The award’s objective is to create a legacy and an enduring memory of Mr. Karamvir Singh Bisht. The Corpus For The Award is INR 21,00,000, which will be invested and the interest accrued will be utilized only for the award.

 

The entire 1981 batch (Cohort Of ’76) wants his legacy to inspire students to cultivate sports as a discipline for developing team spirit, the body, and the mind. In keeping with his talents during IIT Delhi days, The batch wishes to dedicate an award for sporting excellence.

Mr. Karamvir spent five years at IIT-Delhi from 1976 to 1981 in the Civil Engineering department. He was a natural sportsperson with the unique ability to play any sport effortlessly – excelling in indoor and outdoor sports. He was an ace bridge player, a great volleyball player, and even an adventure cycling enthusiast. He led six other IIT Delhi students who cycled across India, covering 5,500 km in just 55 days.

He was the one of the most experienced bridge design and construction expert in the world, having constructed innumerable bridges in many countries, the latest being in Malaysia. He mentored many and left a lasting impact on all whom he touched.

Selection and Eligibility Criteria for ‘‘Karamvir Singh Bisht Best Outgoing Sportsperson Award’

The Best Outgoing Sports Person Award is an annual award recognizing an individual who has considerably contributed to sports during the individual’s tenure at IIT Delhi. The recognition is intended to motivate and inspire others to strive for excellence in sports.

This award will be given to a student with cumulative outstanding contribution in sports during the student’s stay at IIT Delhi. The student will be selected from the graduating year. This award will be given annually.

Every member who contributes to the batch fund would, in turn, be eligible for the following tax benefits.

 Donations made to IIT Delhi are eligible for 100% tax deductible without any limit under section 80G(2) (a) (iiif) of the Indian Income Tax Act (under old Tax Regime).

Donations made via the IIT Delhi Endowment Fund (US) via 501(c)(3) organization, are tax-deductible under US tax law. IIT Delhi’s US Federal Tax ID (EID No.) is 84-5155291.
