IIT Delhi has established the “Prof Ishwar Chandra Goyal Chair” in the department of Physics. IITD alumni Mr. Deepak Goyal (Electrical Engineering, 1991) and Mr. Alok Goyal (Computer Science, 1992) have endowed the chair established in the name of their father, Prof. Ishwar Chandra Goyal, also a former member of the IIT Delhi faculty.
Their motivation to support the chair comes from the way IIT Delhi has played a seminal role in shaping their lives. They feel privileged to support the establishment of this chair in the memory of their father, Prof. Ishwar Chandra Goyal who contributed to advance teaching and research in Physics at IIT Delhi.
Mr. Deepak Goyal is Managing Director and Senior Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), based out of New York. Since joining BCG in 2004, he has advised global clients on a range of issues, including strategy, operations and IT, organization, and overall transformation. Before joining BCG, he worked for McKinsey in India, and for Schlumberger in France and India.
Mr. Alok Goyal is a Partner at Stellaris Venture Partners, a Bangalore based, tech-focused, early-stage venture capital firm. Mr. Alok was previously a Partner with Helion Venture Partners. He began his career with Cadence Design Systems, which was followed by stints in McKinsey, The McKenna Group, Siebel Systems and SAP.
IIT Delhi will appoint Professors to the Chairs, who would pursue research in the areas mandated. As for all other Chair positions, the appointment criteria will be excellence in teaching, and a strong record of research contributions to the field. Chairs endowed by alumni, philanthropic and corporate donations support the Institute’s ability to attract and retain high-quality academic talent.
