Dr. Jai N. Gupta was born on 2nd February 1946. He received his Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 1967. He completed his Master’s degree from Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada in 1971 and the Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1974, both in Electrical Engineering. He also completed his Master of Business Administration from George Washington University in 1978.
Dr. Gupta joined MITRE Corporation in 1974. After gaining valuable R & D experience, he founded in 1979 a company in the USA. Known as EER Systems by bringing together a unique team of system engineers. Today he directs 800 people of this company, which has played a very important role in supporting and implementing major programs of NASA, the Department of Defence, and Federal Aviation Administration. These programs include the Cosmic Background Explorer, the Broadband X-ray Telescope Experiment, and the Gamma Ray Observatory.
Under his leadership, EER Systems has become one of the most successful small businesses in America. Clients from throughout U.S.A. and abroad turn to EER Systems for total life support in the areas of transportation, environment, energy and overall program management. EER Systems has a brilliant record of achievements and amongst its recent successes is the award of a contract to provide the launch vehicle and services for the United Nations first orbital space launch and recovery system. The firm’s Conestoge Rocket will be used for the NASA sponsored Commercial Experiment Transporter (COMET) Program. During a distinguished career, Dr. Gupta has published a large number of research papers and technical reports related to energy and aerospace technologies. He has served as a referee for several professional journals of repute. Dr. Gupta was the President of the International Society of Productivity enhancement for over a year.
The human qualities in Dr. Gupta and his concern for social values have motivated him to take up a leadership position in the building of a new Cultural Centre in Northern Virginia which aims to foster the development of arts, drama, and religious activities. Dr. Gupta has also sponsored scholarships for deserving Indian students in the USA
In honoring Dr. Jai N. Gupta, we recognize the conspicuous contributions made by an alumnus of I.I.T. Delhi as an outstanding technologist, an able administrator, and above all, a humanist who has earned a name for himself in the international community.
Sir, I pray that Dr. Gupta be conferred the Distinguished Alumni Award of I.I.T. Delhi for the year 1992.
