Dr. Prabhat K Dubey was born in Rampur in October 1950. He completed his Ph.D. in Physics from IIT Delhi in 1970 and later obtained an MBA from the University of Western Ontario in 1978. He spent the intervening years at the University of Toronto doing research in semiconductor technology, before moving to industry in 1979. His middle management career included product planning at Harris Semiconductors and NEC Electronics. Rising to senior management in 1989, Dr. Dubey joined AT&T Microelectronics Division (now Agere Systems ) as Vice President and General Manager of its Digital Signal Processing division. He turned the division around from a highly unprofitable state to a highly profitable one, increasing its revenues seventeen times within 5 years, and thereby gave Agere a 30% share in the worldwide DSP market. This division was the one that enabled Europe to implement GSM cellular telephony, as well as the one to provide multimedia technology for use in Apple Computers.
After AT&T, Dr. Dubey sought new challenges in the emerging data networks industry by joining MMC Networks as its CEO in 1994. Under his leadership, MMC became a leader by creating the world’s first
“network processor”. These processors are used by network equipment manufactures, including, Cisco Systems, in their high-speed data switches and routers. Riding on this success, he took MMC Networks public on the NASDAQ in 1997. MMC Networks was later bought by AMCC for $ 4.5 Billion in 2000. Dr. Dubey left MMC Networks in 1998 and started working with the venture capital industry. In 1999, he co-founded Force10 Networks, an emerging networking startup in Silicon Valley. Under his leadership, Force10 Networks has launched the world’s fastest data switch.
Dr. Dubey has excelled in building high technology businesses and in corporate leadership. Through his technological acumen, business skills, entrepreneurship, management skills, and innovative thinking, Dr. Dubey has made significant contributions to information technology.
In honoring Dr. Dubey, we recognize the outstanding contributions made by him as an entrepreneur and business leader. Through his achievements, Dr. Dubey has brought glory to the name of this Institute.
