Mr. K. Venkataramanan received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi in 1966. He joined Larsen & Toubro from campus as Graduate Engineer Management Trainee.
Mr. Venkataramanan is currently a Member of the Board & President (Operations), Larsen & Toubro Limited, Mumbai. He is in charge of the company’s Engineering & Construction Division which caters to turnkey projects in the sectors of Oil & Gas, Chemical Plant & Systems, Hydrocarbons, Fertilisers, Petrochemicals, Power and Cement & Minerals.
Mr. Venkataramanan specialized abroad in Engineering and Design of Process Plant Equipment and successfully played a pioneering role in L&T in Product Engineering, Research & Development, Project Management, and Business Development. He has contributed significantly to the growth of Larsen & Toubro Limited and its emergence as a leading force in the Engineering & Construction Sector.
Mr. Venkataramanan has been responsible for the process design of more than 50 cement plants in India and has contributed to the country achieving self-sufficiency and mastering the technology associated with cement. He has also been responsible for the design and implementation of Combined Cycle Power Plants, Diesel Hydro De Sulpherisation Projects, Offshore Platforms at Bombay High, and development of Waterfront Manufacturing Facilities.
Mr. Venkataramanan is well respected in the industry, both in India and abroad. Among his various recognitions are the V.V. Mariwala Visiting Professor in Chemical Engineering Endowment conferred by UICT, Mumbai for the year 2002 – 2003, the Davidson Frame Award conferred by PMA, Switzerland for strengthening Project Management Profession in India and abroad for the year 2002 and Chemtech – Business Leader of the Year Award for Plant & Machinery in 2005. He has contributed a number of technical papers in National and International Conferences and received awards from industry associations.
In honoring Mr. Venkataramanan, IIT Delhi recognizes the outstanding contributions made by him as a Corporate Leader and Technologist. Through his achievements, Mr. K. Venkataramanan has brought glory to the name of this Institute.
