Mr. Ashok Belani

Mr. Ashok Belani received his Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi in 1980. He subsequently received Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University.
Mr. Belani is currently Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President at Schlumberger Limited. In this position, he manages the Research, Engineering, Manufacturing and Support organizations for the company, performed in 65 centers around the globe with 16,000 employees.
Mr. Belani was hired into Schlumberger as a Field Engineer in 1980, from campus interviews at IIT Delhi, and worked for ten years in different field positions in operations, sales and management. He then transferred to Product Development and held positions in Engineering, Marketing and Technique and in Technology Management. He was VP of Marketing and Product Development for the Wireline Division and then later the VP Marketing and Product Development for Oilfield Services. During these years, Mr. Belani lived in ten different countries in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Mr. Belani moved to Electronic Test and Transactions business in Schlumberger in 1999 and was President of Semiconductor Solutions, working in San Jose, California. From 2001 to 2002, he also held the position of CIO of Schlumberger Ltd. From 2003 until 2005, he was the CEO of the Semiconductor Equipment business in Schlumberger, where he led first the buyout to Private Equity and later the IPO on Nasdaq. This business was subsequently sold to Credence Systems, after which Mr. Belani returned to Schlumberger in Paris as the Chief Technology Officer.
Mr. Belani is currently the Chairman of the Advisory Board for the School of Earth Sciences at Stanford University and also serves on the Advisory Board of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Stanford. He is a member of the Governing Board of the Institute Physique du Globe in Paris and serves on the Advisory Board of the Ecole Superior de Physique et Chimie Industrielles, also in Paris. He is frequent speaker at SPE and at MIT World on energy issues. In addition, he holds five key patents in his name in the field of Reservoir Characterization.
