Professor Dinesh Manocha received his Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Delhi in 1987. He subsequently received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1990 and 1992 respectively.

Professor Manocha is currently the Phi Delta Theta/ Matthew Mason Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA.

Professor Manocha has been on the faculty at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill since 1992. During 1998 and 1999, he was a Visiting Researcher at Intel and during 2008, he was a Visiting Researcher at Microsoft. He has been a member of the editorial boards of more than ten leading journals in the areas of computer graphics, computer-aided design, high- performance computing, computational geometry, and computer algebra. He has also served on the program committees of more than 80 conferences and as program co-chair of leading conferences in computer graphics and geometric modeling.

Professor Manocha has co-authored more than 300 conference and journal papers, book chapters, and books describing his research. His work is well cited in the literature and his research group has developed many well-known software systems that have been downloaded by more than 100,000 users. Many of these systems have been licensed by leading industrial and research corporations including Microsoft, Kawasaki, Intel, Boeing, Electronic Arts, NASA, Ford, MSC Software, Lockheed Martin, Disney Animation, Relic, Varian, Phillips Labs, Siemens, BMW, Raytheon and included in many commercial software products.

Professor Manocha has received a number of distinguished honors, including the National Science Foundation Career Award, Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Award, Honda Research Award, and University of North Carolina Hettleman Award for Scholarly Achievement. He was selected as an ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Fellow and AAAS (American Association for Advancement of Science) Fellow. Professor Manocha has supervised more than 45 M.S. and Ph.D. students. Many of his Ph.D. advisees have taken positions at top academic institutions and research labs and have become leaders in the field as well. Along with his students, Professor Manocha has also received 12 Best Paper Awards at the leading Computer Science conferences in high-performance computing, computer graphics, multimedia, virtual reality, databases, and computer-aided design.

In honouring Professor Dinesh Manocha, IIT Delhi recognizes the outstanding contributions made by him as a Researcher, Technologist, and Educator. Through his achievements, Professor Dinesh Manocha has brought glory to the name of the Institute.
