Professor Ashutosh Sabharwal received his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi (1993), MS (’95) and Ph.D. (’99) in Electrical Engineering from the Ohio State University.
Ashutosh Sabharwal is currently a chaired Professor of Engineering and the Department Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University.
His research focuses on developing new wireless technologies and novel digital health medical devices and algorithms. He co-invented a new communications technology, called full-duplex, that can double Internet speeds and is now adopted in next-generation products. He co-invented open-source software-defined radios that started a new product category. He has also co-invented multiple digital health medical devices for asthma care, assisting surgeries and intensive care leading to new medical devices. Prof. Sabharwal is the recipient of the 2017 IEEE Jack Neubauer Memorial Award, the 2018 IEEE Communications Society Award, the 2019 and 2021 ACM Sigmobile Test-of-time Awards, and the 2019 ACM Community Contribution Award.
Prof. Sabharwal has published more than 250 research articles and holds 19 patents. His research has led to multiple startups, and he is also a co-founder at Cognita Labs. He is a Fellow of IEEE, ACM, and National Academy of Inventors.
In honouring Prof. Ashutosh Sabharwal, IIT Delhi recognises the outstanding contributions made by him to the field of Teaching and Research. Through his achievements, Prof. Sabharwal has brought glory to the name of the Institute.
