Prof. Arun Kumar received his B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi in 1968 and his MS and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. He is a Professor Emeritus at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).
His international work experience spans several countries, including Australia, the USA, the UK, India, China, Southeast Asia, and Africa. He has been a World Bank expert in transport infrastructure for over 20 years and has contributed extensively to the Prime Minister’s Rural Road Program in India. He is an independent external reviewer of large infrastructure projects for the Department of Transport, Victoria, Australia. He has served as Regional Vice President for the International Society for Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Transport Infrastructure and Editor-in-Chief of the Infrastructure Asset Management Journal, Institution of Civil Engineers, UK. He has also served as a Board Member of Engineers Without Borders, Australia. He has over 300 publications to his credit.
He has been the Head of the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geological Engineering and Dean of Research and Innovation at RMIT University. His awards and recognition include the Excellence Award for Road Asset Management by the Institution of Engineers, Australia, the Division Excellence Award in Innovation Research by the Government of Queensland, and the Innovation Team Award by RMIT University.
