Prof. Gajendra P.S. Raghava earned a master's degree in Energy Studies from IIT Delhi in 1986 and a Ph.D. from Punjab University and IMTECH Chandigarh in Bioinformatics.

He is a global leader in bioinformatics. He is renowned for developing over 300 open-source tools—more than any group worldwide—for biological and health sciences. Freely available, these resources advance open science and empower researchers globally, especially in developing nations.

Professor Raghava began his career at CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh, where he founded the acclaimed Bioinformatics Centre, transforming biological research in India and beyond. Now at IIIT Delhi, he leads advanced research in protein therapeutics, drug discovery, and vaccine design.

With 300+ publications, an h-index of 93, and over 33,000 citations, Professor Raghava is a Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher. He has also led key national projects, mentored Ph.D. scholars, and trained thousands of researchers.

He has received top honors, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, J.C. Bose Fellowship, and National Bioscience Award, and is a Fellow of INSA, NASI, and IASc.

In honouring Professor Gajendra P.S. Raghava, IIT Delhi recognizes the outstanding contributions he has made to the field of academics and research. Through his achievements, he has brought glory to the name of the Institute.
