Dr. Gargi Maheshwari holds a dual degree in Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology (1994) and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Currently, Dr. Maheshwari serves as the Vice President of Biologics Science & Technology at Merck & Co.
Her Ph.D. work on cell migration and bioartificial organs became a top-cited paper, reflecting her innovative approach to complex biomedical challenges.
With 25+ years in biopharma, Dr. Maheshwari has led teams at Merck and BMS, helping launch vaccines like Varivax® and Rotateq®, and cancer therapies including Keytruda® and cell therapies. She was instrumental in securing FDA breakthrough status for Keytruda®, speeding its global approval.
Dr. Maheshwari is a Fellow of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. A strong advocate for women in STEM, she mentors future leaders in biotech and has won honors like the PhRMA and ACS Heroes of Chemistry awards. She also serves on academic and industry boards and volunteers to inspire high school girls in STEM.
