The Institute mourns the loss of its Distinguished Alumnus and Nexus Venture Partners’ Co-founder Dr. Naren Gupta

The IIT Delhi community has expressed grief over the demise of one of its distinguished alumni, Dr. Naren Gupta, a 1969 batch alumnus. After graduating from IIT Delhi, Dr. Gupta completed his Masters from the California Institute of Technology and Ph.D. from the Stanford University, USA. 

Dr. Gupta was a stalwart in the field of global technology and entrepreneurial ecosystems. Being the founder of Nexus Venture Partners, as well as various investment and software firms, Dr. Gupta was a maestro and a pioneer of the Indian venture capital domain.

In addition to being a recipient of the President’s Gold Medal from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, he received distinguished alumni awards from both lIT Delhi and Caltech for his notable contributions towards the society in innumerable ways. Dr. Gupta had endowed the Naren Gupta Chair at IT Delhi, which seeks to promote research and teaching in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering.

Dr. Gupta was also the Chairman of the Board at Red Hat and a member of the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology and the Asia Society of Northern California. Many more privately held firms witnessed the honour of having Dr. Gupta as a board member. His ideology of integrating homegrown operations with the experience and wealth overseas, paved the way for converting this untapped potential in India to billion-dollar startups.

His works are a testament of his perseverance and dedication throughout his career, which would remain eternal in the tech and business space. His demise has left a void in our heart.
