IIT Delhi Research Scholar Anchal Sharma Presents her Research Before the Indian Prime Minister and US First Lady at NSF

Anchal Sharma, pursuing her PhD at IIT Delhi, had the unique opportunity to present her research to a distinguished panel of scientists and guests at the National Science Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. Anchal is a Fulbright visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who is working on developing computational techniques to assist blind and partially sighted people to access pictorial content through tactile diagrams. Sharma's research is at the intersection of assistive technology and neuroscience. It explores shape perception and how three-dimensional objects can be conveyed using two-dimensional media. Someday, Sharma hopes these techniques will improve inclusion and help more and more people with visual impairment to pursue STEM education.
