Alumnus Ankur Gupta Presented Graduate Of Last Decade (GOLD) Award

Ankur Gupta (B.Tech, Chemical Engineering, 2012) who was selected for Graduate Of Last Decade (GOLD) Award in 2022 visited campus recently. Director presented the GOLD award which he could not receive at 2022 convocation of IIT Delhi.

Dr Gupta who is serving as an Assistant Professor at University of Colorado Boulder, has made two significant breakthroughs. He leads the Laboratory of Interfaces, Flow, and Electrokinetics (LIFE). His research leverages mathematical tools to tackle interdisciplinary problems across biophysics and energy storage.

In his first study, his team explained the formation of stripes and spots on animal skin, highlighting the underappreciated role of a process called diffusiophoresis. This work gained significant recognition, with over 40 international outlets covering it. This work, along with its findings from related projects within his group, could help design next-generation materials and technologies for human health applications.

In his second study, Dr. Gupta's team proposed a modification to Kirchhoff's law for ionic transport, crucial for understanding ion movement in nanoporous materials used in energy storage devices like supercapacitors. This research garnered even wider attention, with over 90 international media outlets covering it, including The Telegraph, C&EN Magazine, The Print, NDTV, and India Today. This research has the potential to significantly improve charging rates for supercapacitors, potentially allowing them to replace or complement batteries in certain applications.
