Objective of the Award:
The award is instituted to honor the legacy of Nishant Kumar (B Tech CSE, IIT Delhi, 2016), an exceptionally creative PhD student at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. It aims to promote excellence in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) research by acknowledging the student of IIT Delhi whose PhD thesis in the field of CSE is deemed the best of the year.
Eligibility:
a. Eligible candidates must have completed their PhD thesis (including oral defence) in the year preceding June 30 of the given year.
b. At least one of the student's supervisors should be a full-time faculty member of IIT Delhi with a primary appointment in the Computer Science and Engineering department.
c. The thesis should substantially contribute to the advancement of the discipline of Computer Science and Engineering.
Selection Process:
A three-member selection committee, comprising the Head of the Department and two experts in CSE, will be formed by the Faculty Board of the CSE department.
Applicants must submit an abstract highlighting the significant contributions of their thesis by June 15. The selection committee will meet by June 30 to decide the awardee.
Value of the Award:
The "Nishant Kumar Memorial Research Excellence Award" will carry a monetary prize of Rs 25,000. The award certificate will include the thesis title and the names of the supervisor(s). If multiple students are selected, the amount will be equally divided among them.
Administration:
The award will commence from the academic year 2024-25 and will be reviewed after five years in consultation with the donor.
