Shashank Chahar Memorial Scholarship

Memorandum of Understanding between Batch of 2005 - Shivalik Hostel and IIT Delhi

1. Objectives

The objective is to give an annual Scholarship to support 100% tuition fees to undergraduate students of the undergraduate degree program at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi [IITD]. This scholarship will support the tuition fee for the undergraduate program at IIT Delhi, which is INR 2,00,000 per annum.

2. Eligibility Criteria

The beneficiary shall meet the following criteria:

  • a) Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at IIT Delhi.
  • b) The highest JEE Advance Rank student with the parents’ combined annual income should be INR. 5 – 15 Lakhs.
  • c) The student should not cross the institute limit for a scholarship.
  • d) The selected students should be the recipient of the Shivalik hostel.
3. Selection Criteria
  • a) The student with the lowest income will be awarded the scholarship.
  • b) Tie breaker would be income.
4. Continuation of the Scholarship

Once selected as above, the student will continue receiving the scholarship for four years. However, the scholarship shall be terminated at the end of an academic year if :

  • a) the student has a CGPA of less than 5.0 or if he becomes ineligible on account of an increase in family income
5. Administration of the Scholarship:

The Scholarship shall commence from the academic year 2025-26. The Institute shall give sufficient publicity to inform the students of the Scholarship. All selections will be made, and the awardee will be governed by the Institute norms/rules, including those pertaining to the maximum limit on Scholarship/financial assistance admissible to a student in the Institute.

6. Scholarship Fund

The donor will initially deposit a sum of Rs. 42 lakhs with IITD for creating an endowment fund which we hope will continue for perpetuity at the current interest rate of 5%. The Institute will invest the endowment amount in a suitable manner, and the responsibility for the realization of interest will rest with the Institute. Any interest earned will be added back to the endowment fund. As per Institute rules (Notification No IITD/AREG/2021/345540 dated 19.08.2021) 5% of the donation and 5% of the annual returns on the endowment will be used for administrative expenses. The Donor may replenish or increase the endowment suitably to enhance the value and/or the number of aid.

7. Duration

The Scholarship may be reviewed in consultation with the Donor after four years of its Commencement. Commencement year means the Academic Year in which the Scholarship is first awarded, i.e., the year 2025-26.

Every member who contributes to the batch fund would, in turn, be eligible for the following tax benefits.

Donations made in Indian currency: 100% tax deduction: Indian donors having business income can claim deductions u/s 35 of the Income Tax Act, while other Indian donors can claim deductions u/s 80GGA, based on tax certificate issued by IIT Delhi.
